Jacksonville - Lea Powell, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Jacksonville, Texas on Thursday, November 6, 2025. She was born on May 25, 1936, in Marietta, Ohio, to Edward and Ethel (Cunningham) Abicht.
Lea was a devoted caregiver in the healthcare industry and spent many years tending to others with compassion, patience, and grace. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, dining out and being around friends and family. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Lea was preceded in death by her husband, George Powell, Jr., after many wonderful years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Alice Jaurigue and Paula Carlile; her parents; and her five brothers and sisters.
Lea is survived by her son, George Powell, III, of Jacksonville; daughters, Susan Avila and husband, Carlos of North Carolina, and Linda Akin and husband, Willie of Whitehouse; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
