Jacksonville - A funeral service for Johnny Chitwood, age 83, is scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Bro. Doug Wilson officiating. He will be laid to rest at Corine Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, and family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Johnny was born on June 27, 1941. He was a graduate of Jacksonville High School Class of 1959. After graduation, he attended Lon Morris College. In 1966, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, having achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church and worked for many years as an electrician. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, creating memories they will never forget.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Macon and Faye Chitwood.

Left to cherish Johnny's memory are his wife of 52 years, Peggy Chitwood of Jacksonville; daughter, Lisa Dawn Ellis and significant other Chris Dolan of Jacksonville; and sister, Sylvia Davis of Jacksonville. He is also survived by his grandchildren Samantha Castillo and husband Christian of Tennessee Colony, and Sydnie and Andrew England of Bedias; and great grandchildren Teagan, Cole and Ensley.

Pallbearers will be Christian Castillo, Chris Dolan, Andrew England, Clay Ellis, and Franklin Hassell.
