Jamey was born on July 19, 1959, in Jacksonville, to parents C. Ray Dement & Bonnie Ruth Jones Dement and went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2025, in Tyler.
Jamey grew up in Jacksonville and spent most of his years working in the red dirt of Cherokee County. As a young boy, he loved being in the garden on his grandparents' farm near Gallatin. He enjoyed being outdoors and working with his hands. His passion for gardening carried on and for many years he grew tomatoes, peppers, onions, and squash in the red clay there at his home in Mt. Selman.
After high school, he joined the marines and spent some time traveling the seas. He made lifelong friends on his journeys and then came home to marry his bride Amy at Corinth Road Church of Christ. They started a family and got a little piece of land all their own.
When he wasn't working in his garden, Jamey spent time working construction with his Dad building bridges throughout East Texas and later made his living repairing various machines as a maintenance supervisor. He was Mr. Fix-it before YouTube made it easier. He was most recently employed at Federal Heath where he built meaningful relationships with his work "family" there.
He served his family many a fish fry and crawfish boil and enjoyed taking them on family trips to the lake, Six Flags, and Galveston. He always made time to celebrate with friends and family. He usually had a bag of fireworks stashed away for any special occasions. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and loved cheering for his favorite teams: the Mavs, the Rangers, and Them Cowboys. After the kids were grown and flown, he and Amy made trips to Galveston often and he loved a beach sunrise walk and fresh seafood for dinner. One of his favorite adventures was a recent cruise they took to Alaska where they got to see the beauty of God's creation up north. That trip was extra special as they were able to join 300 fellow Christians in praise and worship throughout the journey.
Jamey never met a stranger and this held true throughout his life- he would make friends with the table next to him at a restaurant, while waiting in line for the Texas Giant, or strolling the beach. Even during his recent health battles, he made many new friends in the hospital- learning about the lives of the nurses, doctors, and medical professionals who came in to check on him. He truly made a friend everywhere he went.
Jamey was a beloved son, brother, uncle, Dad, Poppa, and friend. He would give you the shirt off his back and help you fix whatever was broken. He would laugh with the good times and help you get through the bad- one day at a time. He fought the good fight and his faith helped carry him through life's trials. He never said goodbye, it was always "Later", so now we get to say "Later Jamey". We will see you later.
