James Clinton McElyea Obituary

Jacksonville - James "Clinton" McElyea, 70, of Jacksonville, Texas, entered the loving presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, August 22, 2025, in Tyler, Texas.

Fufilling Clinton's wish, loved ones gathered for a private graveside service on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Tecula Cemetery.

Born on December 26, 1954, in Jacksonville, Texas, to James and Joyce McElyea, Clinton lived a life defined by faith, hard work, and love for the outdoors. For more than 30 years, he served with honor and dedication in the Texas Forest Service, where he was respected for his work ethic, integrity, and commitment to protecting both land and community.

Outside of his career, Clinton found his greatest joy in God's creation. An avid hunter and fisherman, he spent countless hours on the family property. What began as open prairie grew into a place filled with memories—quiet mornings in the piney woods, evenings in the deer stand, and hunts shared with family. In those woods, he found peace, joy, and connection.

Clinton was a humble, content, and grateful man. He found happiness not in material things but in life's simple treasures—time with loved ones, moments of laughter, and the beauty of nature. His everyday uniform of overalls and camouflage shirts suited him well, a reflection of a man who lived simply, honestly, and true to himself.

Clinton was preceded in death by his father, James McElyea.

He is survived by his mother, Joyce McElyea; sons, Josh McElyea and wife Bethany of Bainbridge, Georgia, and Brian McElyea and wife Ciji of Brownsboro, Texas; sister, Sherry Stephenson and husband Tommy of Jacksonville, Texas; grandchildren, Lane, Kate, and James McElyea of Bainbridge, Georgia, and Briley and Bentley McElyea of Brownsboro, Texas; niece, Sarah Martin and husband Steve of Mount Pleasant, Texas; and nephew, Jacob Stephenson of Jacksonville, Texas.

Clinton will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, loyalty to friends, and a legacy of kindness, service, and faith. His family is deeply grateful for the many prayers, love, and support shared during this time.

He will be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved him.
