Gregg Cummins Obituary

Jacksonville - Gregg Cummins

Gregg Cummins, a longtime Dallas Metroplex resident, died on November 10, 2025 at the age of 68. He was born on September 12, 1957, in Jacksonville, TX to Wyndel and Wanda Cummins. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1976 and from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1980 with a degree in Business Administration.

Gregg began his career with State Farm Insurance as a claims adjuster where he stayed for his entire career, retiring in 2013 in management. He received numerous awards of excellence from State Farm over the years culminating in the prestigious "Silver Spur Award" in 2008 which included an expense paid trip for him and his wife to Hawaii.

Gregg became a very proud father when his son Derrick was born in 1985. Gregg married the love of his life, Diane Crites, on June 15, 2002. With their marriage, they blended their children Derrick, Ellen and Austin into one loving family. Tragedy befell them when Derrick died suddenly that same year. Gregg was a great dad to all three of his children.

While in high school, Gregg rebuilt a 1951 Chevrolet pick-up, rode horses on long, overnight trail rides, rode competitively in horse shows and water skied, even learning to ski barefoot.

Gregg had a life-long love of motorcycles which he enjoyed sharing with his wife. They biked thru Germany and the United States over several memorable trips. In 2009, he worked closely with Harley Davidson to custom make a bike specifically for him.

At Thanksgiving, he enjoyed frying 10 turkeys so he could give them away to friends and to those working at fire stations that day. Gregg frequently bought meals for the homeless so they would not go hungry. His last act of kindness was to donate his body to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his son, Derrick Cummins in 2002 and father, Wyndel Cummins in 2024.

Gregg is survived by his wife Diane Cummins; daughter Ellen Brookhart (spouse Brandon and granddaughter Nora); son Austin Ballard; mother Wanda Cummins; brother Mike (spouse Carol) and sister Wendy Tynan.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 15, 1:30 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
