Jacksonville - A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Gordon Benge, 94, is scheduled for 10 a.m., July 8, 2025, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Jacksonville with Father Gavin officiating.

Visitation will begin Monday, July 7, 2025, and family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m., at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

He will be laid to rest at Benge Family Cemetery.

Gordon was born on August 17, 1930, in Houston, to James McKinley and Kathleen Marie (Cahill) Benge and passed away on June 18, 2025, in Jacksonville.

Gordon proudly served his country as a Military Police officer stationed stateside during the Korean War. After his service, he built a successful career at Goodyear, where he worked for 22 years. He stayed active and had various jobs during his retirement.

A man of deep faith, Gordon was a committed member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and an active brother in the Knights of Columbus.

Gordon was known to dominate a game of 42 or Scrabble. He also earned a reputation as a true pool shark. Those who knew him remember his incredible memory, his quick wit, and the pride he took in building his dream retirement home.

Gordon was preceded in death by his two parents; infant brother, James Joseph Benge; wife, Margie Faye Crippins Benge, and oldest son, James Allen Benge.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jill Benge, of Houston; sons, John Wesley Benge of Dallas and Jay Donald Benge and wife, Tracy of Dallas; and grandchildren, Whitney, Christopher, LeighAaron, Chance, Wesley, Candice, Matthew, Victoria, Brittany, Colton, and Jenay. He is also survived by multiple great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Christopher, Rorie, Jonathan, Wesley, Chance, Colton and serving as alternate pallbearers are Matthew and Jason.
