Jacksonville - Visitation for Frances Nan (Petri) Green, 92, of Jacksonville will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, and friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home.
Frances Nan (Petril) Green passed away March 14, 2025. She was born at home on September 13, 1932, in Jacksonville, Texas, to John August and Frances Estelle (McIntyre) Petri. Frances was a graduate of Jacksonville West Side Elementary School; a 1951 National Honor Society graduate of Jacksonville High School; a 1952 graduate of The Gradwohl School of Medical Technology, St. Louis, Missouri; and a Cum Laude graduate of Chicago City College, Chicago, Illinois, where she met the love of her life, Thomas F. Green. They were married in 1959 in Chicago where they lived until retirement from the Chicago Police Department and their relocation to Jacksonville in 1981.
Frances was a registered medical technologist of: American Medical Technologist, The International Society of Clinical Laboratory Technology, and the United States Department of Health and Welfare Health Standards and Quality Bureau. She worked as a Medical Technologist in hospitals in Salisbury, N.C.; Corsicana, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; and Jacksonville, TX. She enjoyed the legitimate theatre in St. Louis, Chicago, East Texas, New York City and in Europe. She appeared in over 30 productions at Cherokee Civic Theatre, Rusk, TX; and served for several years as an Officer of the Board of Directors of that theatre.
She enjoyed finding and making props as well as assisting in set design construction and scenic painting on many productions in Rusk. She was instructed in tap dance and point ballet in her childhood by Florence Harries and Lena Allbright. Frances loved the ballet. She was a donor and attendant at both The American Ballet and the Rousse De Monte Carlo, The New York City Ballet and The Belshoi Ballet in St. Louis, Chicago, Dallas, New York City and Las Vegas. Thomas and Frances were long time participants in 20 "Elderhostel" programs at colleges from S. Carolina to Sun Valley, Idaho, and many cities in between.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 57 years, Thomas F. Green;
brother, Johnny Mack Petri; and a sister Jean Petri.
She is survived by sons, James E. Green and Thomas M. Green of Jacksonville; sister-in-law Joan Ross of Chicago, Il.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests the donations be made in her memory to: The Jacksonville Public Library at 526 E. Commerce, Jacksonville, TX 75766; Cherokee Civic Theatre at 157 W. 5th, Rusk, TX 75785; or to a charity of your choice.
