Jacksonville - Audrey Elsie Hester, age 98, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026 with loved ones at her bedside.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel, Jacksonville, at 2:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at Stillwaters Memorial Gardens.

A time of visitation with the family will be Thursday evening, April 23, 2026 from 6 - 8 pm at Autry's.

Born on September 23, 1927, in Lovelady, Texas, to Harvey and Julia Alverson, she lived a simple life with many friends and family from the area. Some of her happiest moments included being outdoors or "on the go". Two of her favorite pastimes included thrifting and directing her children as they entertained with their musical talents. Mrs. Audrey lived a long life grounded in faith, which remained a guiding force throughout her years.

Mrs. Hester raised ten children and built a legacy that now spans over six generations. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Charlie Hester, Jr. (Roseanna); Juliette Miller; David Hester (Pat); Harvey Hester (Katrina); Tresie Thomas; Daniel Hester (Josie); Samuel Hester; Anita Fortescue; Philip Hester (June); Dorcas McDonald, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren, each of whom will carry forward a part of her heritage.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Junior, Paul, and Ray Alverson; her daughter in law, Vickie; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Stephanie; and her devoted husband of nearly 62 years, Charlie Lee Hester, Sr.

After Papaw's passing, Grandma Elsie later became a resident of Legacy in Jacksonville. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the numerous present and past caregivers/staff who, over the years, showed her kindness, friendship, and compassionate care.

Her life leaves a lasting imprint on all who knew her, and she will be remembered by generations of friends and family.
