Funeral Services for Sylverine Cleveland, 89, of Rusk will be 3:30 p.m., Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny Emerson and Bro. Brad Turlington officiating. Burial will follow at Myrtle Springs Cemetery, Ponta.
Mrs. Cleveland passed away September 26, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She was born June 25, 1928 in Slocum, Texas to the late Milton and Nannie Watts. She graduated from Maydelle High School in 1945. She has been a resident of Rusk since 1952. She was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church and active in many civic organizations. She retired from Rusk State Hospital of 30 years as a typing and shorthand instructor and Administrative Assistant. She loved the Lord and her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, Floyd R. "June" Cleveland Jr., and grandson, Jeffery Lee Cleveland.
She is remembered by her sons Floyd "Rickey" and Marilyn Cleveland III, Rusk, Nickey Don and Jon Cleveland, Rusk, daughter, Pam and Jerry Todd, Alto, grandchildren, Jennifer and Joe Esconjido, Jacksonville, Jana Angelley, McKinney, Misty and Brian Townsend, Alto, Trey Todd, Rusk, Lance and Courtney Hart, Rusk, Nickey D. Cleveland, Rusk, great-grandchildren, Kelcie Martin, Tate Martin, Brek Escojido, Madelyn Esconjido, Sarah Angelley, Todd Hayden Townsend, Hunter Townsend, Shayla Townsend, Wesley Todd, Chloe Hart, Laiklyn Hart, brother Dalton and Lois Watts, Wichita Falls, Texas, nephew, Larry Watts, niece, Patti and Larry Hamilton, great nephews, Michael Teter, David Hamilton, and a host of cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Trey Todd, Lance Hart, Nickey D. Cleveland, Tate Martin, Brian Townsend, and Jerry Todd. Honorary Pallbearers will be Todd Hayden Townsend and Wesley Todd. Visitation will be 2:30 p.m., Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the church. Donations may be made to the Rusk Fire Department, 219 S. Main St., Rusk, TX 75785.
