Marie's Story

RUSK - Marie McKay, 92, died Sunday, February 19, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 73 years, Johnnie McKay, 91, her daughter Sherry Williams, daughter-in-law Margie McKay, sister Sebell Belmear, 95, four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Michael McKay and sisters Darlene Shindoll, and Lorene Conrad.
Marie was born, Hattie Marie Brown, February 11, 1925 in San Benito, Texas. She was raised near Canton, Texas where she met and married her partner in life Johnnie Avon McKay. Over the next 40 years she worked for six different banking institutions; First National Bank Dallas, Texas, First National Bank, Jacksonville, Texas, First National Bank, Carthage, Texas, First State Bank, Rusk, Texas, Crocket Bank, and Austin Bank (retired in 1983, the Soil and Water Conservation Service, Panola County Livestock Barn; raised two children and lovingly supported her husband in his life and career.
Together with her husband Marie built a loving family, excelling at all her endeavors through her unwavering faith and a gentle kindness that accompanied her in all facets of her life. She established herself as a leader in the Women's Society for several churches generously devoting her time to community and church affairs.
She truly relished her time on this earth always a person who wanted to go, see, do, and learn. Even into her late 80's she was using her laptop computer and Ipad to stay 'plugged in" to her family, faith, interests and community. Marie McKay filled her life with a constant goodness that permeated the lives of all those who had the privilege to call her wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.
A funeral service for Marie McKay, age 92, of Rusk, is scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Rev. Robert Newton officiating. She will be laid to rest at Still Waters Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville.
Mrs. McKay was a faithful member of Faith Congregational Church in Rusk. She enjoyed a career in the banking business and was a retired bank teller and Assistant Vice-President of Austin Bank, Rusk.
Pallbearers will be John Knowles, John Hulstine, Jerry Parker, James Freeman, Josh Woodruff, Michael McKay, and Chris McKay. Honorary pallbearers will be Homer Rogers, and Paul Lunene.
A visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Marie's family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Family requests, in lieu of flowers donations in Marie's name be made to the Faith Congregational Church Women's Society, 27854 US Hwy 69 North, Jacksonville, Texas 75766 with use designated for mission work.
