Funeral Services for Lola Banks Kennedy, 82, of Rusk, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, December 24, 2015, at The Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, Rusk, Texas, with Rev. Charles Nunnally and Rev. R.S. Dyess officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery in Rusk, Texas. Mrs. Kennedy passed away surrounded by her family on December 20, 2015. She was born August 26, 1933. She worked and retired as a switchboard operator for Rusk State Hospital. She was a member at Bethel United Methodist Church, Rusk, Texas. She loved playing bingo, being a part of the crafting and card playing group, known for her cooking, and spending precious time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, J.C. Banks, and her son Curtis “Skipper” Brown. She is survived by her husband, William Kennedy, Rusk, TX, daughter-in-law, Patty Brown, Rusk, TX, granddaughter and her family Crystal, Garrett and Duncan Pirkey, Whitehouse, TX, step-son Johnny Banks, Rusk, TX, grand-daughters and their families, Shelly and Jerry Knott, and their children Lance and Autumn, Rusk, TX, Holly and Chris Cook and their children Cheyenne, Brian, and Bobby, Greenville, Missouri, step-children, Randal Kennedy, Rusk, TX, Terry Kennedy and his wife Susan, Slocum, TX, Janet Roach and her husband David, Maydelle, TX, Dennis Kennedy and his wife Pam, Rusk, TX, Joe Kennedy, Leesville, Louisiana, Numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, close family friend, Beth Banks, Rusk, TX, plus a host of close friends and a community who knew her as “Nanny Lola.” Pallbearers will be Lance Knott, Dustin Kennedy, Cody Roach, Ricky Kennedy, Nicholas Martin, Nathan Martin, and Brian Stanford. Honorary Pallbearers will be David “Crockett” Buckner, Larry Davis, Brian Cook and Bobby Cook. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at the funeral home.
