A funeral service for Dr. James T. "Jim" Adams, age 76, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 11 o'clock in the morning Saturday, August 20, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Rev. Jack Albright, Rev. Doug Wintermute, Rev. Jimmie Reese and Rev. Barbara Hugghins will officiate. There will be a private family burial held at Still Waters Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Dr. Adams passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in Jacksonville.
James was born October 27, 1939 in Mt. Pleasant to James V. and Edith (Wilkes) Adams.
James served in the US Navy from 1963-1965 and in the Navy Reserves for 22 years. He started his dental practice in 1965 and retired in 2005. He was a past president of the Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. Jim was a member of First United Methodist Church and a volunteer at the food bank.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, James Lewis Adams.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Dian Adams of Jacksonville; sons, James David Adams and wife Kristi of Troup, Andrew Noble Adams and wife Cathy of Naples, Fl; sister, Jean Tomerlin and husband John. There are six grandchildren, Ashley Adams McIntyre and husband Taylor, Caitlin Adams, Caytie Waibel, Wade, Bradley and Andrew Adams; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Dr. Charles Creed, Dr. Mike Hatchett, Dr. Mark Thompson, Dr. Bradley Westbrook and honorary pallbearer, Dr. Michael Banks.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church.
