Funeral services for Helen Long, age 74, of Ponta, are scheduled for 10 o’clock in the morning Friday, January 8, 2016, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Robbie Arrington officiating. She will be laid to rest in Plainview Cemetery in Ponta. Mrs. Long passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, in Tyler. She was born September 5, 1941, in Ponta to Arthur and Willie (Hardeway) Dixon. After graduating from Fred Douglass High School in Jacksonville, Texas, she moved to Dallas, where she attended El Centro College and became a Healthcare Administrator. She worked at Parkland Memorial Hospital and Presby-terian Hospital for many years. She later moved to East Texas where she continued working as a healthcare administrator. Helen was an active member of the Church of Christ in Rusk. She loved reading and sewing as well as working in her garden planting flowers and vegetables. She will always be remembered for the classy, graceful, and elegant lady that she was. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Eric Jaycen Humpherey; brothers, William and Carl Dixon; sisters, Lillie Vales and Doris Bonner; and a son-in-law, Deossie Robinson. Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 46 years, Cleveland Long; daughters, Rona Robinson of Jacksonville, Deborah Long of Rusk; son, Victor Long and wife Natasha of Ponta; sisters, Sarah Robinson and husband Floyd of Ponta, Allie Dixon of Ponta; brother-in-law, Elmer Long of Nacogdoches; sisters-in-law, Bernice Smith of Hallsville and Doris Naulls of Dallas. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will begin on Thursday, January 7, 2016, and friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 o’clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
