A funeral service for Eugene Hunt, age 79, of Mt. Selman, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Bro. Larry Hunt and Bro. Tom Terry officiating. He was laid to rest at Larissa Cemetery.
Mr. Hunt passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in Palestine.
Eugene was born November 8, 1936 in Clarksville, Texas to William and Ruby (Davis) Hunt.
He married Martha Nell Scully on September 23, 1957. He was a quiet, loving, gentle and encouraging man who loved God and his family with all his heart. Eugene was owner and operator of Gene Hunt Automotive. He was co-organizer of Oak Grove Bible Church in Bullard that he helped build, on the board of directors and an usher. Eugene taught Sunday school and was also a Cub Scout leader. When his boys were in high school during football season, he would encourage one boy with a free front end alignment each week. He loved taking his sons camping, fishing and deer hunting. They always did everything as a family.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather-called Papa.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Hunt.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Martha of Mt. Selman; sons, Wayne Hunt and wife Shannon of Jacksonville, Larry Hunt and wife Pam of Edom; grandchildren, Lauren, Caleb, Sarah and husband Zach, Bethany and husband Gabriel, DeAnna and fiancé Michael; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Eoin Nichols; four brothers and four sisters.
Pallbearers will be Zach Nichols, Gabriel Najer, David Swain, Billy Hunt, Adam Hunt and Doug Evans and honorary pallbearer, Michael Terry.
Visitation was held on Saturday at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
