Funeral services for Dorothy Carpenter, age 87, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 2 pm Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2016 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Bro. Sonny McFarland officiating. She will be laid to rest in McDonald Cemetery. Mrs. Carpenter passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016 in Jacksonville. She was born in Cherokee County November 15, 1928 to Ernest and Willie (Steinstifer) Durrett. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred Carpenter; brothers, Ernest “Ernie” Durrett and Bob Durrett; and a nephew, Ricky Durrett. Survivors include her nieces, Belinda Westbrook of Jacksonville and Louise Pain of Katy; great niece, La Tona Durrett of Jacksonville; sister-in-law and her children, Jean Durrett of Onalaska; brother in-law and sister in-law, Travis and Liz Carpenter; sister in-law Patsy Suggs and numerous other great nephews that she loved dearly. Pallbearers will be her great nephews, Devin Westbrook, James Hays Brad Shoemaker, Ronny Westbrook, Daniel Finigan and Nic Simmons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ricky Brown, Lee Carpenter and Edward Cameron. Visitation will begin on Monday, January 4, 2016 and friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 o’clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
