Donald's Story

A funeral service for Donald Shuttlesworth, age 93, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 2 o'clock in the afternoon Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Michael Shuttlesworth, Brian Morris and Robbie Arrington officiating. He will be laid to rest at Jarratt Cemetery.
Mr. Shuttlesworth passed away Monday, July 17, 2017 in Jacksonville.
Donald was born August 20, 1923 in Frost, Texas to Grayson and Elma (Crutchfield) Shuttlesworth.
He served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Philippines and Japan. After 30 years, Donald retired from CP& L Company in Pharr, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma Shuttlesworth; brother, Toby Shuttlesworth and sisters, Shirley Rogers and Bobbie Smith.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Doug Shuttlesworth and wife Martha of Garland, Kent Shuttlesworth and wife Rosanne of Jacksonville; daughters, June Garrett and husband John Edd of Annona, Sherry Day of Jacksonville; brothers, Gerald Shuttlesworth and wife Mary Beth of Pharr, Fred Shuttlesworth and wife Darlene of Wimberly, Jimmy Shuttlesworth and wife Loretta of Azle; sisters, Maxy Tarver of Lubbock and Barbara Streckfus of Kerrville. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jason Shuttlesworth, John Shuttlesworth, Matthew Day, Ben Day, Hunter Morris and Caleb Horne. Honorary pallbearers are Gerald Shuttlesworth, Fred Shuttlesworth, Jimmy Shuttlesworth, Ulises Batres, Jason Horne, Bobby Ensey and Scotty Coleman.
Viewing will begin on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 and friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Rather than customary condolences, memorials may be made to Hospice Plus, 321 E. Spring St. Suite 121, Palestine, Texas 75801.
