Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Mae George, age 88, of Jacksonville will be held at 2:00 Friday, May 5, 2017, in the Chapel of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville, with Bro. Jerry Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in the West Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Verna Mae George was born November 12, 1928, in Cherokee County, Texas where she had resided most of her life. She was a retired cook for the J.I.S.D. where she had worked for many years. She was a member of the Corner Stone Baptist Church. Mrs. George went to be with her Lord on April 29, 2017.
Verna George was preceded in death by her parents, John Roy and Grace Ellis Higginbotham, her husband, Davis George and two brothers, Ernest and Cecil Higginbotham.
Mrs. George is survived by a son, Marvin Davis George of Reklaw, two daughters, Wanda Beth Bednarz of Edna, TX and Ruby Grace George Clayburg of Jacksonville, eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael Potter, Andrew Potter, Grayson Potter, Aaron Goodwin, Pat Green and Jordan Green. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday prior to the service at the Boren-Conner Funeral Home Chapel.
