Graveside Services for Sherry Kay Wilson Rankin, 64, of Rusk, will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 20, 2017 at Pelican Cemetery, Pelican, Louisiana under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Rusk, Texas, with Bro. Mike Bradford officiating.
Mrs. Rankin was born in Nowata, Oklahoma to Emma L. Wilson and the late Henry James Wilson on December 5, 1952. She attended elementary and junior high school in Brownsville, Texas and graduated from Brazosport High School, Freeport, Texas. She graduated from Southwest Texas College in 1975. She continued in education at Southwest Seminary from 1979-1981 where she met her husband, Daniel F. Rankin, Jr. They moved to Rusk in 1983 where she taught school in the Rusk ISD, retiring twelve years ago. Sherry went on to receive her Master of Arts from Stephen F. Austin University. She was a member of Atoy Baptist Church for 26 years.
She was predeceased by death by her father, Henry James Wilson.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dan; her mother, Emma L. Wilson of Jacksonville; her brothers, John and his wife Cheryl Wilson, Austin, Tom and his wife, Marilyn Wilson, Angleton, Larry and his wife Karen Wilson, The Woodlands, and Wilfred and his wife Beth Wilson, Spring as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.
