Graveside services for Mrs. Sadie Palmer, 87, of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Gossett Chapel Cemetery in Jacksonville, Texas with Mr. Marc Smith officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sadie Louise Smith Palmer was born January 3, 1932 in Jacksonville, Texas to Mark and Lydia Cowen Smith and passed away April 30, 2019 in Carthage. Sadie was raised in Jacksonville and attended Jacksonville Schools. She married Elvin "Bud" Palmer and together they celebrated 58 years until he preceded her in death in January 2005. Mrs. Palmer worked for many years as a clerk for the East Texas Workforce Commission in Carthage and was a member of the Northside Church of Christ. She was an avid reader, loved to do crossword puzzles and spend time with her family. Sadie is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Everett, Truman and John Smith: and sisters, Dora Tate and Margie West.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by her sons, Paul Palmer and Don Palmer both of Carthage; daughter, Brenda Robinson and husband Kenneth of Carthage; brothers, Richard Smith of Jacksonville, James Smith and wife Becky of Dallas; sisters, Lydia Upchurch and husband Bill of Kerens, Ann Peevy and husband Bill of Troup; grandchildren, Corey Robinson, Belinda Whitaker, Kelli Vicars, Kasi Broussard, Caleb Palmer, Joshua Palmer, Aaron Palmer, Randall Donaires, Taylor Palmer, Stephanie Faircloth; numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
If desired, the family requests that donation be made in Mrs. Palmer's name to the Gossett Chapel Cemetery, c/o Ann Peevy, 20797 CR 2199, Troup, TX 75789.
