Rose Mary's Story
Rose Mary "Peggy" Henderson Paslay Halbert was born on August 26, 1934 in Rusk, Texas and departed this life to live in heaven with Jesus, her Savior and Lord, on April 4, 2016 in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Peggy grew up in Dailville, but resided in Jacksonville for thirty-five years. With her first husband, Jim Paslay, she owned and operated Jim's Upholstery & Trim for twenty-three years. After his death in 1984, she became a collector in the Credit Department of Beall's General Office until her marriage to Jim Halbert in 1990. During the next twenty years they lived primarily in Ft. Worth, but regularly spent time at their Jacksonville home as well. After a diagnosis of geriatric dementia in 2003, Jim cared for Peggy faithfully until his death in 2010. At that time, she became a resident of Lakewood Village Christian Care Center in Ft. Worth where she lived until her death this past Monday.
A born-again believer, Peggy was a faithful church member and deacon's wife. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and sang in her church's choirs many years, eventually serving as "church song leader" for a period of time and later singing in a women's ensemble. A wonderful homemaker and cook, she loved opening her home to family and friends for meals and fellowships.
Though she left high school before graduating to marry her first husband, she was a lifelong learner and teacher. She completed a home study course with the Creative Writers School in Chicago and wrote many short stories and poems. Through the years, as a wordsmith, she blessed many, sending cards with personal messages of encouragement in times of sorrow and celebration. All who knew her enjoyed her smile, twinkling eyes, and quick wit; but avoided provoking her feisty temper at all costs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, D. H. "Doc" Henderson and Jessie Leola Yarbrough Henderson; her first husband, James "Jim" Weldon Paslay; her second husband, James "Jim" Edward Halbert; a daughter, Kathryn Denise Paslay; and her beloved best friend, Geraldine "Jerri" Glover Arrington.
She is survived by her son, Mike Paslay and wife, Pam, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; three grandsons; Justin Paslay and wife, Erin, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Tim Paslay and wife, Kara, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Drew Paslay of Fayetteville, Arkansas; four sisters, Maxine Halbert and husband, J. G., Sue Watson, and Bina Lloyd, all of Rusk, Texas; Glynda Dungan of Corpus Christi, Texas; three sister-in-laws, Edna Lambright and husband, Pete; Ruby Abbott, both of Jacksonville, Texas; and Jeanie Williams and husband, Cecil, of Maydelle; two great grandchildren, Will and Aubrey Jane Paslay of Charlotte, North Carolina; a step-son, Jerry Halbert and wife, Suzanne, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews.
