A funeral service for Ronnie McCollum, age 75, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 10 o'clock in the morning Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Rev. Ernest Higginbotham officiating. He will be laid to rest in Concord Cemetery.
Mr. McCollum passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 in Jacksonville.
Ronnie was born April 19, 1942 in Troup to Rade and Jessie (Martin) McCollum.
Ronnie served in the U.S. Navy during The Vietnam War. After his discharge, he moved to Jacksonville where he worked for the Jacksonville Fire Department for over 30 years. During that time, he spent many years as a firefighter and retired as the Fire Marshal. In his retirement, he worked as a Ranch Manager for Flying W Ranch. Ronnie was a member of Central Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory is son, Justin McCollum and his wife Cheryl of Cotulla; granddaughter, Chaney McCollum. He is also survived by his best friend, Donna McCollum of Jacksonville; and sisters, Emma Moore of Nacogdoches and Diane Saxton of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jay Hooker, Randy Ragsdale, Clyde Cain, Rodney Kelley, Ted Hunt and Billy Redd. Honorary pallbearers will be Jess Hamilton, Connie Irby, Cecil Pond, and past and present members of Jacksonville Fire Department.
Visitation will begin on Friday, September 22, 2017 and friends are cordially invited to visit with the Ronnie's family from 5 to 7 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
