Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Smith, 97 of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 11 o’clock in the morning Friday, December 11, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, with Rev. Doug Wintermute and Rev. Barbara Morgan officiating. Interment will be at Earle’s Chapel Cemetery in Jacksonville. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home of Jacksonville. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in Tyler. He was born February 14, 1918 in Elkhart, Indiana to Cleo and Effie Mae Smith. Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church, Jacksonville where he was a member of the Hand Bell Choir and the Alpha Omega Sunday School Class. He was a longtime member of the Albright and Bethel United Methodist Churches in Elkhart, Ind. and was a choir director, musician and song leader. Bob retired as a supervisor for the tax assessor’s office in Mason Township in Michigan. For many years he and his wife Marjorie owned and operated a dairy in Union Michigan.  He was an active member of various boards associated with the dairy industry in Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 71 years, Marjorie Smith. Survivors include his daughters and sons in-law, Janice and Gary McGaughey, Jacksonville Joan and Philip Carter, Raleigh, N.C. and Debra and Francis Timmers, Cupertino, Ca. He has seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, eight great great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. A visitation with the family will begin at 10 o’clock in the morning, Friday December 11, 2015 at First United Methodist Church. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be; Cecil Bannister, Don Lovelady, Brandon Bannister, Troy Bannister, Kyle Bannister and Anthony Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be; Rev. Jack Albright, Jim Brown, John Mark Lester, Nancy Lee, Enid Shepard, Gene Stolze and members of the Alpha Omega Sunday School class of First United Methodist Church, Jacksonville. Rather than customary condolences, donations in Bob’s memory may be directed to Hospice of East Texas 4111 University Blvd. Tyler, Texas 75701.
