Rev. James's Story
The Reverend James R. (Jimmy) Hawkins passed away July 18, 2017, at the age of 89. Born in Gadsden, Alabama, he served in the U. S. Navy and moved to Texas in 1953. Jimmy faithfully served the Lord as a circuit pastor for the United Methodist Church in several East Texas communities over many years, including an associate pastorship with First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Ann, a grandson, Erik McKinney and son-in-law, Kevin McKinney.
Reverend Hawkins is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Jean, two sons, Ronney and wife, Jan Hawkins of Florida, Jerry Hawkins of Whitehouse, Texas, a daughter, Kathy McKinney of Jacksonville, a brother, George Hawkins of Alabama, six grandchildren, Chris and Staci Lyn Hawkins, Jason and Erica Hawkins, Danny and Kristal Hawkins, Heather and Matt Newman, Bryan and Britian McKinney, Lana and Justin Flannery and several great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at the Resthaven Cemetery on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
