Oscar J. McAnally, 82, passed away in Tyler, Texas, January 31, 2016 after a lengthy illness. He was born February 27, 1933 in Jacksonville, Texas to Robartus Columbus "Bart" and Edna (Young) McAnally (both deceased), the 13th of 14 children. He served in the Army during the Korean War and traveled all over the world in the early 1950's. He married Shirley Ann Bass Lovelady on October 25, 1978 in Cherokee County, Texas. He received his Master's degree in Education in 1964 from Stephen F. Austin University. He taught and was principal in Shepherd, Texas, coached girls' basketball and taught at New Summerfield, and was principal in Tyler, Carlisle, Elkhart, Grapeland and lastly, La Poynor from 1983-1992 when he retired. He then became President and General Manager for North Cherokee Water Corporation and retired from there in 2015. Oscar and Shirley were active members of Enterprise Baptist Church where Oscar served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He is predeceased by sisters Ura ("Sis"), Eva, Edith ("Babe"), Josie and Joyce and brothers Henry, Howard, Frank, Floyd, Delbert and Elbert McAnally. He is survived by his wife of 37 years; two brothers, Monroe and Stuart McAnally both of Jacksonville; his son Gary McAnally and wife Rita of New Summerfield; daughter Becky Compos and husband Enos of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; daughter Karen Harrelson and husband Larry of Jacksonville; daughters Donna Wemp and husband Chuck and Pat Fortner and husband Jim, both of Tyler, and son James Lovelady and wife Trina of Jacksonville. He was deeply loved by his 15 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Gary McAnally, James Lovelady, Shaun McAnally, Chad Tomlinson, Scott Alexander, Tony Lassiter, Chris Hendricks and Jim Fortner. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons at Enterprise Baptist Church.
