Text size

Mary Katherine Dotson passed away February 28, 2016, in Jacksonville, Texas. She was born January 2, 1923, in Reklaw to Walter and Winnie Mitchell.
Katherine graduated from Rusk High School and later married the love of her life Adolph Dotson of New Summerfield on March 8, 1943. After their marriage, she traveled with him to many states because of his Army duty. Adolph was later discharged from the service in California and they returned to Texas and began their life in New Summerfield where they would continue to live, raise their family and ranch.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years in 2000; her parents, brother, James Mitchell and a sister, Francis Bane.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Brenda Pierce and husband Ron of Jacksonville, Barbara Baggett of Longview; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Robert Berry, of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Katherine was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed going to cattle auction sales with Adolph and the girls which was a big part of her family's life. She loved traveling with Adolph to his 764 Tank/Battalion Army reunions, was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
At a very young age, Katherine learned to sew and was a talented seamstress. She taught her daughters to sew, but neither had her gift for the art. Katherine enjoyed decorating her house especially for Christmas and shopping with her daughters. She liked country music and George Strait was her favorite. Going to the Houston Rodeo was always something she looked forward to doing and she was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Her family would like to express their sincere thanks to her friend and care giver, Letha Ray, her health nurses, Debbie Wiggins and Venita Williams, her physical therapist, Chay Viray and the loving staff at Trinity Assisted Living.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 and friends are cordially invited to visit with family from 5-7 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 11 o'clock in the morning at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Pastor Michael Mathis and Charles Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow in McDonald Cemetery, New Summerfield.
Rather than customary condolences, memorials may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice 7925 S. Broadway Ave. Suite 1140, Tyler, TX 75703 if desired.
