Dan entered into his Heavenly reward on Sunday, August 27, 2017 in Tyler at Hospice of East Texas. He was born on January 11, 1943 in Palestine to Lawrence L. and Dorothy Marie Morrison.
He was a 1961 graduate of Jacksonville High School. In 1961, he met Betty Jean Pennington and realized he had met his soulmate. On September 8, 1962, Dan and Betty were married. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage, two precious children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was an employee of Goodyear at Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. for 31 years. Then God opened the door for Dan to go into music ministry. He served as a Worship Leader at Sunset Baptist Church in Jacksonville for six years, then as the Assistant Worship Leader at First Baptist Church in Mixon until his illness prevented him from serving any longer. He was also a Sunday School teacher and deacon at both churches. Dan loved music, especially that which glorified Jesus Christ and he sang about it at many area churches. He was also employed part time at Thompson Funeral Home and Autry Funeral Home where he considered it a privilege to serve with the caring and loving staff.
Family was very important to Dan and he loved them dearly. One his favorite pastimes was spending time with them in the woods at home or at the tree farm. He loved all of God's creations and taught his family to love them too.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Joshua Bryan Morrison.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted, beloved wife, Betty; son, Keith Morrison and Pepper Martin of Troup; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Thomas Partin of Tecula. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he was so proud of Ashlie Morrison, Stephen Morrison, Geoff Partin, Amanda Morrison and Kaly Russell; and great-grandchildren, David Heird, Maverick Morrison, Moxxon Morrison, Mishayla Summers, Norah McLaughlin and Ben McLaughlin. He also leaves a sister, Murvel Thompson; several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends who will greatly miss him.
A funeral service is scheduled at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Bro. Chris Cliborn officiating. He will be laid to rest in Tecula Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Dan's family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Pallbearers will be Ken Jacobs, Rich Clark, David Williams, Charles Martin, Dennis Buckingham and Steve Whitton. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of First Baptist Church, Mixon, The Under Construction Sunday School class and the Staff of Autry Funeral Home.
Rather than customary condolences, donations in Dan's memory may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church, Mixon or to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
