Graveside services for John Boyd "Chick" Mayfield, 91, of Tyler are scheduled for 2:30 pm Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, Jacksonville, with Rev. Lance Lewis officiating.
Visitation will precede the service, from 1 pm to 2 pm, at Autry Funeral Home.
Mr. Mayfield was born in Jacksonville on November 24, 1925 to John Boyd and Maudie Lee Mayfield. He served his country in WWII as a Navy/Marine Corpsman. John attended Lon Morris College where he met and married Emogene Shaffer on May 28, 1949. He worked 40 years for United Gas/ Entex/ Reliant Energy.
Mr. Mayfield was preceded in death by his son Mark Mayfield, parents, brother Dee Mayfield and a sister Mavie Lee Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Emogene Mayfield of Tyler, son Mike Mayfield and wife Marilyn of Nacogdoches, daughter Jane Wilmoth and husband Richard of Flint, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a sister Dorothy Perry of Andrews, TX.
