A funeral service for Jerry Max Strait, age 66, of Troup, is scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon Friday, March 25, 2016, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Dee Allen, Joe Morris and John King officiating. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park, Jacksonville.
He was born May 13, 1949, in Jacksonville and passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016 in Tyler.
Jerry was a member of Wood Forest Baptist Church in Houston. He worked for the Houston Police Department from 1970 until he retired in 2004. He spent 5 of those years as a patrol officer and 27 years in the Helicopter Division. Upon retirement, he moved to the Blackjack community in Cherokee County.
He was preceded in death by his parents H.A. "Buddy" and Lois (Mayfield) Strait; and grandparents, Ed and Etta Mayfield.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Ginger Walling Strait of Troup; son, Bryan Strait and wife Adri and his grandchildren, Mason and Morgan Strait, all of The Woodlands.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Tim Marshall, Terry Stockton, Garry Clark, Nelson Cox, John King, June Shane and Dee Allen.
Visitation will begin on Friday, March 25, 2016 and friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 1 to 2 o'clock in the afternoon at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
