Jean's Story

A funeral service for Jean Mixon, age 80, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. Eddie Arrington, Fred Hayes and Bro. Justin McCorkle will officiate. Mrs. Mixon will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park in Jacksonville.
Jean passed away Monday, April 30, 2018, in Jacksonville.
She was born July 15, 1937, in Cooper, Texas to Thomas and Susan (Hollowell) Carrell.
Mrs. Mixon received her Master's degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin University. She started teaching in Jacksonville in 1965, and she retired as principal of East Side School in 2001. After retirement, she was a supervisor for student teachers at SFA. She was a Jacksonville Influential Indian and was a member of Southside Church of Christ where she served as secretary for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, B.W. "Billy" Mixon, who died in 1988.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Gay Lynn and Fred Hayes of San Antonio, Sharon and Eddie Arrington of Jacksonville; a brother, Thomas Carrell and wife Jean of Pearland. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Kristi and Brent Kirkpatrick, Karli and Thomas Sitton, Kyle and Lauren Arrington, Katie and Garrett Bryant; great-grandchildren, Piers and Aubrey Kirkpatrick, Layton and Tucker Sitton, Emelie and Elliot Arrington, Harper and Hayes Bryant, niece Sandra Carrell Tremblay and husband Dale, and nephew Jeff Carrell.
Pallbearers will be Jason Campbell, Clay Thornton, Kyle Arrington, Brent Kirkpatrick, Thomas Sitton and Garrett Bryant.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, and friends are cordially invited to visit with Jean's family from 5 to 7 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
