A funeral service for James Gray, age 79, of Maydelle, is scheduled at 2 o'clock in the afternoon Friday, February 23, 2018 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Rev. Earl Socia and Rev. Jon Valentine officiating. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Comfort Cemetery.
Mr. Gray passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in Tyler.
James was born January 11, 1939 in Nacogdoches to Manuel and Ruthie (Jenkins) Gray.
He was a member and music minister at the Maranatha Worship Center in Maydelle, where he was Founder, Elder and Chairman of the Board. James was a Gospel song writer and lead many Gospel singings by the Gray Family Singers. He was the best daddy in the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Deral Gray; and a grandson, James Brian Gray.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Rebbecca Gray of Maydelle; son, Jody Gray and wife Amanda of Maydelle; daughter, Janice Suggs and husband Brad of Hudson. He is also survived by a brother, Gerald Gray of Jewett; sisters, Geneva Cowart and husband Leon of Willis, Barbara Hull of Willis, Nancy Barrow and husband Ray of Splendora, Melinda Gray of Maydelle; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, February 22, 2018 and friends are cordially invited to visit with James' family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Pallbearers will be David Gray, Jason Gray, J.C. Barrow, Cary Hull, Wayne Barrow, Ray Barrow, Brad Suggs and Ray Threadgill. Honorary pallbearers are Willie Moore, Trenton Gray, Sammy Click and Mark Hicks.
