A funeral service for Jack E. Tarrant, age 97, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 10 o'clock in the morning Friday, June 24, 2016, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Bro. Don Harvey and Bro. Mike Bowen officiating. He will be laid to rest at Larissa Cemetery in Mt. Selman.
Mr. Tarrant passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, in Jacksonville.
He was born July 6, 1918, in Mt. Selman to Jasper and Viola (Hensley) Tarrant.
Jack served in the in the 36th infantry Division of the U. S. Army. After serving, he sold cookies in Houston and drove a city bus.
In the 1950s, Jack moved to Jacksonville and formed several businesses with his cousin, J. C. Hall: The Dixie Service Station, Cherokee Butane, H & T Ford Tractor and Tom Kay Tire.
He enjoyed traveling the mountainous regions, including once going to Alaska. He loved to go camping, working in his garden and spending time with all his grandchildren. Jack was a member of Mt. Selman Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, of 62 ½ years, Imogene Tarrant; sisters-in-law, Frances Clark and Bernita Kethan; and brother in-law, James Ray Taylor.
Left to cherish his memories is his brother, Bobby Joe Tarrant and wife Joyce, all of Jacksonville; sister-in-law, June Taylor of Jacksonville; daughter, Anita Kay Harvey and husband Harold Lee Harvey of Jacksonville; grandson, James Michael Tarrant and wife Alisha Tarrant; great-grandchildren, Michael Jack Tarrant and wife Jentrie Tarrant, Makayla Hamman and husband Justin Hamman; great-great grandchildren, Kay Lee Tarrant, Bailey Tarrant, Jack Everett Tarrant, Mason James Hamman and Rawson Hamman; step-granddaughters, Lynnette and Jannette; step great grandchildren, Caitlyn Matejka and Westin Matejka; and several nieces and nephews, including Nicky Joe Tarrant and Eric Jack Tarrant, both of Jacksonville, Tina Green of Southlake and Will Rodgers of Humble.
Pallbearers will be Steve Berry, Bon Jackson, Justin Matejka, John Scott Paine, Patrick Reagan, Jamie Slovacek, Joe Smith and Hudson White.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, June 23, 2016, and friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
