Hazel  Morris


Hazel Grace Towler Morris, age 95, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2019 in Crosby, Texas. She was born on October 8, 1923 in Dayton, Texas to David and Susan McWhorter Towler. Hazel was the third daughter of what was to become a large and loving family of 11 children.
Raised in a small farming community, Hazel enjoyed growing vegetables, fruit and beautiful flowers of all kinds. In 1967, she became a licensed cosmetologist. She owned and operated a salon in Jacksonville for many years. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Hazel served on various boards and committees. She was loyal in her support of charitable causes and a good friend to her neighbors.
On November 17, 1942, she married Douglas Allen Morris in Liberty, Texas. After his military service ended in 1945, the newlyweds settled in the Houston area and started a family. She was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished her time with family, and family gatherings were her favorite times.
Mrs. Morris is preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years Douglas Morris Sr. and grandson Ray Morris.
Left to cherish her memory is a son, Douglas Morris Jr., wife Debbie, and grandchildren, Mark Morris and wife, Robin, Macey Chisolm and Abby Fawvor; a daughter, Penny Bright, and grandsons Dale Pipher and wife Yvonne, Greg Pipher and wife Brooke; Trent Pipher and wife Anna; and Jarrod Pipher.; daughter Jenny Magouyrk and husband John, and grandsons John Magouyrk IV and wife Amanda, Wade Magouyrk and wife Courtney, and Ben Magouyrk and wife Whitney. Hazel was blessed with 20 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by sisters Virginia Waldrop of Columbus, Margie Smith of Huffman, and Bonnie Morris of Llano and a brother Marvin Towler and wife Barbara of Crosby. And lastly her special "running buddy", Sharon Morris of Crosby.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Lon Morris and Greyson Pipher will serve as honorary pall bearers.
A funeral service is scheduled at 2 o'clock in the afternoon Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. The Rev. Enid Shepherd will officiate. Mrs. Morris will be laid to rest at Still Waters Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville.
