Gilbert Holt Stafford passed away peacefully on May 17, 2016. He was 85.
Gilbert was born in Smith County on April 2, 1931, to Purvis and Carrie Stafford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by two sisters, Rebecca Jane Gilbreath and Anne Hendry, both of Jacksonville, TX.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Stafford of Reklaw, TX; two sons, Brent Stafford and wife Dawn of Cypress, TX, and Bart Stafford and wife Alix of Houston, TX; two stepchildren, Carla Campbell and husband Keith of Humble, TX, and Ricky Davidson of Nashville, TN; five grandchildren, Brooke Stafford of Irving, TX, Brayton Stafford and wife CC of Longview, TX, Britanny Stafford of Brattleboro, VT, Jordan Stafford of The Woodlands, TX, and Delaney Stafford of Brenham, TX; two step-grandchildren, Cheyenne Campbell Pike and husband Joshua, and Stormy Campbell and wife Melissa of Virginia Beach, VA.; two great-grandchildren, Ada and Cason Stafford of Longview, TX; five step great-grandchildren, Kason, Kelton, and Kienon Pike of Humble, TX, and Caelin and George Amazeen of Virginia Beach, VA.
Gilbert served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served the City of Reklaw as Utility Manager and retired in 1993.
During retirement, he served many years as a City Council Member and several terms as Mayor of Reklaw. In life he served God.
A fine Christian man with strong faith, he will be sorely missed by his many friends and relatives.
Visitation will begin on at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Services will be conducted by Lyle Schober and Diann Newhouse. Interment will be at Walker's Chapel Cemetery, Reklaw, TX.
Pallbearers will be Dicky Beeman, Orville Grunden, Jim Kerr, Ron Nutt, Tim Sansom and Tom Vallery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Anderson, John Badertscher and Jim Holmes.
