Funeral services for Gerald Claiborne, age 77, of Mixon, are scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Rev. Charles Plunkett officiating. He will be laid to rest at Pierce's Chapel Cemetery, Jacksonville.
Mr. Claiborne passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 in Tyler.
He was born June 17, 1938 in Cherokee County, Texas to Preston and Minnie (Sanford) Claiborne.
Gerald was an avid hunter and fisherman and a lifelong farmer in Jacksonville. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Bullard, a member of Tyler Farmers Market and president of Longview Farmers Market. He was a loving father and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Pope and Madelyn Mines; and a brother, Waymon Claiborne.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Daphine Smith Claiborne of Mixon; sons, David Claiborne and wife Carrie, Phillip Claiborne, and Matt Claiborne and wife Kathy, all of Mixon; brother, Clennon Claiborne of Pierce's Chapel; sisters, Bonnie Slider of Pierce's Chapel, Janell Seeton of Cove Springs, Nelda Gray of Athens. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Austin Claiborne, James Freeze, Kelsey Smith, Paige Duggan, Matthew "Bubba" Claiborne, Roy Price, Maci Claiborne, and Casey Claiborne; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 and friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
