A funeral service for Elna Taylor Perkins, age 101, of Ponta is scheduled at 10 o'clock in the morning Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Brady Shirley officiating. She will be laid to rest at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Ponta.
Mrs. Perkins passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 in Carthage.
Elna was born September 27, 1916 in Griffin, Texas to Ezra and Lillie (McMeans) Taylor.
Elna and Terry were married by Eris Ritchie on July 12, 1940. Elna and Terry owned P & W general merchandise store in Ponta where she not only worked alongside Terry at the store, but she was Assistant Postmistress in Ponta for many years. She was a 75-year member of the Ponta Home Demonstration Club. She was always an excellent seamstress; loves to crochet and do most any kind of handcraft, including quilts. So many stories could be told of her long life... too many stories, not enough time! Elna was a member of Ponta Church of Christ for over 75 years.
Elna was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 53 years, Terry Perkins; beloved daughter, Terry Yvonne Perkins Shirley; grandson, Scott Shirley; brothers, Zack Taylor, Vester Taylor, Earl Taylor and sisters, Floe Horn and Ruth Kersh.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Karen Stanley and husband David of Carthage; son-in-law, Kenneth Shirley of Chapel Hill; grandchildren Brady R. Shirley and wife Dee Dee, Rush T. Shirley and wife Alexandria, Kurt Stanley and wife Yvette, Kerry Stanley; also, Leslie Shirley; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews as well.
Pallbearers will be Rush T. Shirley, Kurt Stanley, Kerry Stanley, Scotty Shirley, Hayden Shirley and Joe Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are Trey Shirley, Taylor Shirley, Glynn Horn, Bing Taylor, Shelton Taylor, Carl Lee Matthews and Kelly Woodcock.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 15, 2017 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Elna's family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
