Bruce's Story

Bruce R. "Reg" Harris passed from this life on Friday, December 01, 2017. He was born on June 30, 1924 to parents S.J. and Laura Brooks Harris at the family home in the Union Grove Area on property acquired by his ancestors prior to the Civil War.
Reg attended Dialville School and graduated from Dialville High School. He was later inducted in the United States Navy serving through World War II.
After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he returned to his primary home to begin a life that gave him great pleasure. He enjoyed family, ranching, farming and land improvement. This lifestyle allowed him to enjoy his biggest passion; being outside with the cows. His labor made quite a difference through the years. He could take a rocky unattractive piece of land and turn it into a beautiful pasture.
He was truly a man of honor and respect; a great neighbor and friend and a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Reagan Harris, Palestine and infant brother, Brutus Harris.
He is survived by two cousins, Jean Bowling of Gallatin and Ann Cummings of Tyler; and a host of friends and neighbors.
A graveside service is scheduled at 3 o'clock in the afternoon Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Jarratt Cemetery with Rev. Steve Edwards officiating. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
A special thank you to Kindred Hospice of Athens and Trinity Assisted Living in Jacksonville.
