Funeral services for Beth Wiggins Anderson, age 87, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 11 am Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lester Foreman officiating. Interment will follow at Still Waters Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
L'Beth Ann Wiggins Anderson was born on September 6, 1930 to Allie Murle Kennedy Wiggins and Ransom Bryan "Slick" Wiggins in Jacksonville, Texas, and transitioned from this life on October 16, 2017 in Jacksonville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Murle and Bryan Wiggins; brother, Billie Bryan Wiggins (1940); and sister, Peggy Lyn Wiggins (2006 ); and her husband, John Newburn Anderson. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Patsy Wiggins Coffman of Celina, Texas; daughter, Johnna Lynn Anderson of Jacksonville; grandsons, Robert Bryan Witherspoon-Adamson and wife, Katherine and Nathaniel James Shaner and great-grandson Gavin Newburn Shaner, all of Phoenix, Arizona; several nieces and nephews; and beloved grand-dog, Ernest Tiberius Gibbs.
She was employed at the candy counter of the Palace Theater during her senior year of high school, where she met her future husband, John Anderson. She graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1948 and they married on October 2 of that year. Following marriage, she was briefly employed by the Jacksonville City Water Department before becoming a teller for First National Bank of Jacksonville, where she remained employed until June of 1962, upon the birth of daughter Johnna Lynn.
Returning to school in 1968, she attended Lon Morris College and Stephen F. Austin State University, graduating in 1972 with a double major in English and Elementary Education, with high honors. Subsequently, she began a teaching career with the Jacksonville Independent School District, teaching 5th and 6th grade Art, English and Spelling at West Side Elementary, then 6th grade Art at the Fred Douglas Intermediate School, before moving to continue teaching 6th grade Art at the new Jacksonville Middle School on the Troup Highway, until retiring in 1986. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Texas State Teachers Association, and was a charter member of the O'Keefe Road Community Club, established in 1958.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Jacksonville. She sang in the Adult Choir under the direction of Brother Venson Roberts and taught the primary Sunday School classes during the 1960s and 1970s.
Her retirement was spent with her husband, traveling, enjoying their grandsons, and pursuing creative outlets in painting, counted cross stitch, and other artistic hobbies.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of Trinity Assisted Living of Jacksonville, Senior Care of Jacksonville, Heart to Heart Hospice, and Brenda Strong of Reiki for All Beings for their support and assistance during the past year.
Pallbearers will be Barry Bingham, Randy Gorham, John Mark Lester, Mike Marshall, James Paul McClure, and Kent Westbrook. Honorary pallbearers are Lloyd Bearden, Dr. Charles Creed, Charlie Harris, Charles Jeffery, H.C. "Mac" McConnell, and Frank Waggoner.
Visitation will be held at Autry Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either HOPE of Jacksonville, Friends of the Jacksonville Animal Shelter, or the charity of your choice.
