A funeral service for Benjamin "Ben" Sonntag, age 43, of Athens, is scheduled at 10 o'clock in the morning Friday, June 30, 2017 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Rev. Doug Wintermute officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Long Creek Cemetery in Sunnyvale, Texas.
Mr. Sonntag passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 in Tyler.
Ben was born November 19, 1973 in Dallas, Texas.
He was member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Ben loved to sing and made All State Choir in high school. He was a graduate of Jacksonville High School in 1992 and graduated University of Texas at Tyler in 1997 with a Bachelor's of Science degree. He attended the Physicians Assistant Program at UT Southwestern in Dallas and was an EMT while attending school. Ben was employed as a counselor at the Texas Youth Commission and the Salvation Army.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred E. Sonntag.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Nancy Sonntag of Jacksonville; sisters, Connie Sonntag Farrell and husband Ty of Malakoff and Lee Mata and husband Isaac of Flint; nieces and nephews, Rachael Ashley, Cheyenne Ramsey, Caleb Mata, Angela Ramsey and her children, Makenzie and Isaak; and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers will be Isaac Mata, Ty Farrell, Caleb Mata, Brice Jackson, Tim McRae and Braylon Cable.
Rather than customary condolences, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 633 N. Broadway Ave., Tyler, Texas 75702.
