Barney Aubrey Carpenter, age 90, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.
A funeral service is scheduled at 10 o'clock in the morning Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Rev. Donny Sadler officiating. Interment will follow at Union Grove Cemetery in Troup.
Mr. Carpenter was known to Aubrey to all his family and friends. He was born June 10, 1926. He was a lifelong resident of the East Texas area and lived in the Arp area for more than 50 years.
Aubrey was an ordained deacon affiliated with the Southern Baptist. Due to his health, he was inactive. He served in the Army of the United States for four years. He retired from the Texas Department of Transportation after 23 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Wilson-Carpenter; father Barney B. Carpenter and mother Julia Meeks Roper; brothers, Leroy and Francis Eugene Carpenter; sisters, Billie Frank Guidry, Josephine Williams and Alma Imogene Driver.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Bessie Laverne Carpenter, Mary Louise Carpenter-Waldrum, both of Overton; grandson, Leslie Lynn Carpenter of Liberty, MS; two great-grandchildren, Lane Garrett Carpenter and Brooke Lynette Carpenter of MS. He is also survived by sisters, Anna Laura Walton of Overton, Daisy Lucille Vanover of Ohio; brother, Charles Ray Carpenter of Tyler; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin on Friday, February 3, 2017 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Aubrey's family from 6 to 8 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
