Barbara Uvene Cooke of Neches walked through those Heavenly gates to be with the Lord on Monday, the 13th of November 2017. She was surrounded by her loving family and held by her husband of over 55 years. Her favorite artist, Elvis, was singing her favorite gospel songs on the radio as she peacefully slipped into the arms of the Lord. Barbara was born on the 21st of August 1939, in Jacksonville, Texas to Joe and Christine Mitchell. Barbara had a passion for emergency medical services and volunteered for many service organizations. She graduated from Jacksonville High School, attended several years of college, and served in the U.S. Navy briefly. She went on to become a Cardiac Tech for the Saltville Rescue Squad in Virginia.
She taught her family what it means to live and love, even through hard times. She was a pillar of strength for the entire family. She loved one man her entire life and raised three amazing young men. She loved her five grandchildren very much and was able to meet all of her great grandchildren before she passed.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Richard Cooke, Sr., her son Richard L. Cooke, Jr. and daughter-in-law Cara, son Lincoln Cooke and daughter-in-law Penny, son Vincent Cooke and daughter-in-law Melissa. She had five grandchildren Chad Cooke and wife Allie, Ashley Garr and husband Chase, Victoria Cooke, Lorin Cooke and Abigail Cooke. She also had three beautiful great-grandchildren Hailey and Elizabeth Garr and Sawyer Cooke. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Christine Mitchell and an infant son, Victor Cooke.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening of Thursday, the 16th of November at Herrington / Land of Memory 3434 South Loop 256, Palestine, Texas. A celebration of her life will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 17th of November in the sanctuary of Neches First Baptist Church, 200 Anderson Drive in Neches with Bro. Kevin Willmott officiating. Interment will follow at the Neches Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard L. Cooke, Jr., Lincoln Cooke, Vincent Cooke, Chad Cooke, Chase Garr, and Willie Greves. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lorin Cooke and George Simmons.
