Funeral services for A.C. Jenkins, age 93, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2015, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Bro. James Blaylock officiating. Burial will be in Jarratt Cemetery of Craft-Turney Communities. Jenkins passed away Friday, November 27, 2015, in Jacksonville. He was born August 6, 1922, in Gallatin, Cherokee County, Texas, and the fifth of six siblings to A. Cicero and Laura Ada Priestly Jenkins. He was married to Rachel Elizabeth Partlow Jenkins for 68 years. For several years he was the last surviving member of the Gallatin High School graduating class of 1939, which he served as class president. Mr. Jenkins served 26 years as secretary-treasurer and cemetery board of director’s member. As a single person in his early twenties, he was elected by Cherokee County Voters to serve as Clerk of the District Court. He was re-elected three more times and always without a run-off. At age nine, he began competing in Interscholastic League Contests in Declamation. Classed as sub-junior, he won both County and District levels. As a junior Declaimer, the following year, he won the same two levels. He was preceded in death by all five of his sisters. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Partlow of Jacksonville; son, A.C. (Cy) Jenkins, III; daughters, Heather Rodriguez and husband Ernest of Jacksonville, and Jan Durham of Longview; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Colton Maldonado, Caleb Maldonado, Max Treadwell, Doug George and John Evans. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Rodriguez, M.V. (Bud) Pickett, Dan J. Fuller, Morris P. Long, Donald Smith, Joe Shipley, Fred King, Janie Cox and Norma Steubing. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
